Multimodal time

Today was a planes, trains, and automobiles day with a whole heap of walking and some busses thrown in for good measure.

We checked out of our hotel in Dublin and proceeded to the bus stop, only to eventually give up and take a cab when it appeared that the bus would never come.  We had plenty of time to get a snack and some batteries for my camera plus read a couple of chapters of a book.

Our plane ended up being a weird style prop jobber.

It was a pleasant enough flight and quite short, but I am not a fan of prop planes.  Still it was a first for Maggie and she loves to fly.

We landed in a very wet Edinburgh. After messing about at the airport we took the tram into the center of town.  Notice all of our lovely rain gear.

And what was she taking a picture of you might ask?

By the time we got off the tram in Haymarket it was pouring.  We were going to do the bus to our lodgings but with the bags and the rain we opted instead for a taxi. That was a good call since it continued to pour and we had a fairly fuzzy notion of how to navigate.

The place we are staying is cute an cosy. Here is the view out of the back door to our room.

We took a wander around town on a quest for food and ice cream.  Since we arrived a bit later we decided to not push it.  We had pies for supper - I had spinach and cheese, Maggie had a meat pie, and we shared cherry.  We then went on search for ice cream.

It took us a while but we had a great peek at the castle in the distance.

It took a while to find what we were looking for but we did find a cow jumping through a wall.

If you can't tell, the road is called Cowgate.  I believe the one above us is Bridgeview.  I love literal names.

A few observations: Edinburgh is very beautiful, very hilly, and quite old.  There are a lot of people running up and down hills training their little hearts out.  It is also pedestrian friendly - in Dublin the walk signs operated on some mysterious system that everyone just ignored while here it seems that pushing the walk button results in getting a walk sign.  There appear to be quite a lot of rave/EDM clubs.  Maggie and I considered going clubbing, but electronica is not our jam, so instead we are in our room drinking tea and reading books.  Tomorrow we go to the castle and a few museums and generally have a very touristy time.  Fingers crossed for a bit of sunshine.
